I read a scary article concerning the pace at which technology is accerlerating. Cloning, combing electronics with biotechnology, robots that can see and feel, etc. Those Terminator movies are looking a whole lot more realistic. There are some big names alarmed by this trend - Bill Joy of Sun Microsystems Inc (CEO and lead scientist). The article even suggested that scientist were working on or had dreams of making a non biological DNA that would enable machines to replicate themselves. Cyborgs and all aren't science fiction anymore or won't be by 2030. IBM just released a processor able to perform 200 trillion FLOPS or roughly 5% of brain power. Like everything else the numbers will go up and up. They said the next generation could be the last if the androids take over (humans go extinct), but I'm sure there would be some holdouts so the news isn't all bad.
